Meet the parents of Cole Palmer
The spectacular rise of a professional athlete is rarely a solo journey, and for the young star who is presently dominating the Premier League, the foundation of his success was built in his family home in Wythenshawe. The gifted attacking midfielder is now making the leap from the local streets of South Manchester to the worldwide stage at Stamford Bridge, but it is down to the efforts of his parents Jermaine and Marie Palmer that he is in this position. Their story is one of commitment – showing what a parent and decent upbringing can do to the career of a world class footballer who now goes by the name ‘Ice Cold’ by fans for his calmness under pressure.

Jermaine Palmer (father)
Jermaine Palmer is a dental technician and from a very early age helped his son to develop his professional talents. Jermaine had played Sunday league football for close to twenty years, and they brought a broad tactical understanding and a great passion of the game to their day-to-day lives. And he practiced relentlessly with his son, setting up goalposts in his yard, driving to local parks to hone the young player’s talents. Beyond the physical training, Jermaine placed a significant emphasis on sportsmanship and discipline, managing to balance his professional career with a dedication to being present for every milestone of his son’s burgeoning football career.
MOTHER’S CULTURAL HERITAGE AND RESILIENCE
Marie Palmer has been an equally important pillar of support, giving the emotional stability and encouragement needed to go through the high stakes world of professional athletics. Since 1994, she has been married to Jermaine and embraced with all her heart the obligations that come with raising a family. She created the ideal setting for her son to let his dreams grow, even with the demands of everyday life. Her experience as a sewing machinist taught her a work ethic and dedication that is present in her son’s professional work ethic. The Palmers, as a couple, addressed the obstacles of inner city life with one voice, hanging on to their belief in their son’s potential even through the arduous early days of his development.

Marie Palmer (mother)
The young athlete also takes pride and inspiration from the family’s connections to their Caribbean ancestry. Culture has always been bountiful in the Palmer household, with roots back to St Kitts and Nevis through Jermaine’s family line, and it has remained a part of the player’s identity today. This sense of self, combined with the humble principles given by his parents, has enabled him keep his feet on the ground despite his spectacular rise to become one of Europe’s finest talents. The sacrifices of his parents are always there in the background of his success story in his big European finals with his club or the England squad.
“The Family Support Legacy in the World of Professional Sports”
That family support had world famous consequence during the 2024-25 season as the youthful star guided Chelsea to triumphs in the UEFA Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup. Jermaine and Marie have given him the mental strength to do record-breaking things like scoring four goals in one half and an exceptional penalty conversion rate. His parents kept him grounded in his art and education at St Bede’s College and tutored him in the ways of modern football. Today he is not simply a sporting great, but a monument to the enduring power of family, faith and an unrelenting quest of perfection.
