Alex Marquez: A Victory Worthy of Moto2 & Moto3 Titles

Alex Marquez of Gresini said that after winning the Spanish Grand Prix, it felt as the two titles he won in the lower classes. The Spanish motorcyclist celebrated at the “Ángel Nieto” circuit Sunday, where it took 93 races to win his first victory in the premier category. The younger Marquez had been third three times this season already, and he took his first win right in front of Yamaha’s Fabio Quartararo and Ducati’s Francesco Bagnaia. The older Marquez made an early mistake when he went off the track for a brief moment in his battle with his teammate.

“If you had asked me where I would have liked to achieve my first victory, I would definitely have chosen Jerez. I won here for the first time in Moto2, but this is another level. We have best fans in the world, it was incredible to celebrate with them in the stadium section. It was a great race for me,” said Marquez.

When pressed on how he rated this victory against the rest of his career, Marquez was forthright.

“This victory is as valuable as my two titles. Now I have been at that level,” Marquez stressed.

With a one-point lead now over his older brother after the win, Marquez returned to the top of the overall standings.

The next race of the Moto GP championship is the French Grand Prix at Le Mans from May 9th to 11th.
