Childhood & Background

It had been a Christian family; thus, their teachings entered Bickle from his very toddler days. In his teenage years, most of his athlete friends were practicing Christians, which made his interest in the religion deepen even further.

Bickle Enters Ministry

Bickle began pastoring small churches in late 1970s St. Louis, Missouri. Because of the fervent manner of preaching and great commitment to the Gospel and His people, Bickle attracted a very dedicated group of people in St. Missouri. By the late 1980s, he was quite a well-known figure in the evangelical Christian community.

Then, he left for Kansas City in 1982 where he started preaching. He planted a church there, Kansas City Fellowship, which later became the International House of Prayer (IHOPKC). During his time in Kansas City, he awoke an interest in eschatology and prophetic ministry; this in turn formed his theological views and expressions.

Founding of International House of Prayer (IHOPKC)

In 1999, Bickle founded this organisation for evangelical missions. The purpose behind creating this organisation is to see the creation of a worldwide movement centered on Jesus Christ.

Bickle states that the vision behind founding IHOPKC arose in the early ’80s when he started receiving some prophetic words concerning a global prayer move. He says that God told him to set up an organization dedicated to His worship 24 hours a day.

IHOPKC initially occupied a small room; now it has a full campus. They attract thousands of believers from all over the world through their school programs IN International House of Prayers University (IHOPU), which through successive years trains young leaders in theology, worship, and missions.

Controversies Surrounding Mike Bickle: Sexual Misconduct

Sexual misconduct was alleged against Bickle by several women spanning over a decade. Former leaders of IHOPKC came forth in October 2023 to accuse Bickle of sexual misconduct. They called him a “chronic sexual predator” who for more than a decade used his authority to lure and exploit women, abuse that existed for quite some time within the organization, whose perpetrators were every single time forced into silence.

An inquiry by Firefly confirmed well in excess of 17 women coming forward with complaints of sexual abuse by Bickle. The investigation further uncovered how Bickle created an environment where questioning his actions was tantamount to questioning God’s authority, and how senior IHOPKC leaders dismissed the victim’s experiences and shielded Bickle.

Responses from Various Christian Leaders

Various prominent Christian leaders testified that he was unfit for the ministry and should be investigated further. After these allegations arose, the IHOPKC officially severed all ties with Bickle in December 2023, and in March 2024, he was permanently disqualified from being a minister by a group of Christian leaders.

Bickle’s Response

Bickle denied all of the recent allegations of sexual misconduct by claiming that most of them were capitalized on or fabricated. He admits to improper behavior more than 20 years ago, but maintains all recent accusations are either exaggerated or simply false.”
