Housewives Delighted: Recipe For Yeast-Free Crunchy Bread

By  |

A recipe for yeast-free bread sounds almost impossible, but it is definitely possible, try this one of ours.

It seems that yeast has been on the list of the most sought-after foods lately. And since it was almost impossible to find it in stores during the coronavirus pandemic, it is not out of reach to have one recipe for a delicious bread and that without yeast.

For the recipe for yeast-free bread you will need:
200g of white flour,
200g of wholemeal flour,
200g of wheat flour,
1/2 dl of oil,
2 dl of buttermilk,
2 dl of black beer,
1 tablespoon freshly grated ginger,
2 teaspoons of baking soda,
1 teaspoon of salt,
1 teaspoon of sugar.

As recipes for beer bread are usually from the British Isles or Ireland, it is customary to use buttermilk (the liquid left over from churning butter) instead of water or milk, as well as various types of beer, for this yeast-free bread. As buttermilk is not available in stores here, you can use plain yogurt or kefir instead. You can also vary the types of flour and use whatever suits you best. You can also add different types of seeds to the dough if you wish: pumpkin, sunflower, flax, sesame…

Turn on the oven to preheat at 180°C.

Preparation:

In a large bowl, mix the dry ingredients: flour, salt, sugar, baking soda and ginger. Gradually add buttermilk and beer to make a sticky dough. This means that it should not be too loose or too dry. Kneading the dough does not take long, just enough to mix all the ingredients together.

Grease and flour a long mold. Pour the prepared dough into the mold. Put the mold with the dough in the preheated oven and bake at the same temperature for 50-60 minutes depending on how crunchy you like your bread. Take the bread out and put it in a cotton cloth to cool.
